What is ADHD?
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental difference which is a normal part of neurodiversity in our human experience. There are many ways to interpret these differences. Many recorded scientific sources refer to ADHD in reference to the DSM-V Manual which uses a deficit model to describe traits that could be interfering with daily life if not supported. Other ways to describe ADHD are through the Holistic model which can be seen in the resources page.
What are the signs of autism?
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) encompasses a range of symptoms, including difficulties with social interaction, repetitive behaviors, challenges in communication, and unique strengths or interests.

The typical explanation of this question is: "If you've met one child with autism, you've met one child with autism." Many Autistics prefer to use identify first language and say they are Autistics. Medical models use terms like Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD.) Signs can vary widely but may include variations of lack of eye contact, which Autistics say are not necessary to hear. Some may not respond to their own name, many say because they are not responding because they know they are being interrupted by something boring or less preferred. Some may have a difficulty understanding social cues or be extremely social, and maybe even intense focus on specific topics of interest.  We recommend referring to our resources page for more information and tips!
How do I know if my child has dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a learning difference that is man made. It only showed up as a deficit when there was mass use of certain languages. Generally, dyslexia is commonly seen in most classrooms and in a regular classroom of 30, up to 4-5 could be dyslexic. Not only is it difficult to translate letters to sound, but also to decode longer words , read and spell. Some other signs of dyslexia could be not doing well with time management, money calculations, and confusing left and right. Dyslexics also are great problem solvers and have the ability to earn better than their neurotypical counterparts. Here is a free screener on our resource page.
Do I have adult ADHD?
We will add a screener in our resources soon, but usually this has been easy to miss for many parents whose children have had a formal diagnosis. There are so many parents who are still figuring things out and need more support by getting an official diagnosis.

It costs a substantial amount to get an official diagnosis, and there are ADHD coaches out there; however, if you are interested, contact us and we can provide you some names!

What is an Individualized Education Plan?
An Individualized Education Plan, or IEP, varies from Country to Country, and State to State. All IEPs include possible goals, amendments, modifications, strategies, & supports needed to succeed at school. Our integration of IEP goals are based on families. What we can agree on is that all IEPs should help a child succeed. In the US, IEPs are legal documents that were mandated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Some IEPs can also state what participation is necessary for standardized tests. Most IEPs could be reviewed at least once yearly with a team that could include, parents, teachers, administration, special ed., resource teacher, and maybe even the student.
How does personalized tutoring benefit my child?
We know how your child learns best. Our tutors have classroom experience, and education and have passed the Edify approval process. Part of getting approved as an Edify tutor includes being neuro-affirmative. Many educators are still learning about the strengths that each child has. At Edify, we take the time to find the best match so you don't have to. What you will find is that your children are happy to learn with their Edify match. They will love learning in less than 90 days! Also, we know that over time, your child will have the confidence to learn differently and see their progress academically. Their confidence will grow and their grades will improve.

As we continue to help children learn by curating the best learning materials available with our partner agencies, use your child's interests, use best practice tools, all in a neuroaffirmative foundation, we aim to be the difference your child needs to succeed.

At Edify, we customize our one-on-one tutoring plans to meet the unique strengths and needs of neurodivergent children, promoting confidence and a love for learning. Personalized tutoring ensures that your child receives individualized attention, boosting their self-esteem, academic performance, and socio-emotional well-being.
Is Edify suitable for children with varying degrees of neurodivergence?
Yes. Edify is designed to help neurodivergent children thrive by focusing on their strengths, fostering curiosity, and building confidence through engaging and adaptive learning approaches. Edify caters to a wide range of neurodivergent children, offering tailored support that adapts to each child's unique challenges and strengths.

If there is a lack of a match available, we will let you know of our waitlist program so we can stand behind the best match possible.
How is my child paired with a tutor, and how can they best adjust to lessons?
We match tutors with students based on the tutor’s strengths, scheduled availability, and the student’s specific learning needs, creating the best possible learning environment.

After matching, we will send you an email about who your tutor is, details about Edify mentorship, any books or materials we can order for you, and to sign up for the 3rd party scheduling app (TutorBird). The first meeting you have with your tutor will be a Meet & Greet, which will allow us to get to know your child's preferences, behaviors, and interests. If this initial meeting goes well, you will continue to have tutoring sessions weekly. Otherwise, if you don’t believe you and your child are a good fit with the tutor, you also have the option to request a new match.
